It's unusual for me not to have been on holiday somewhere hot and sunny for a good 2 years. This is mainly because we've been travelling around different places in Europe and concentrating on more cultural places (how posh it that!). I say it's unusual, as for those of you who don't know, I lived in Turkey for 2 years on/off as that's where my husband is from. We normally go back twice a year, but the flights have been sooo expensive the passed few years (£600 per person!) that we just couldn't afford it. However, I'm excited to say that we're going for 2 weeks at the start of September, so when the lovely guys over at JD Williams asked me to put together my summer 'wish list' the timing couldn't have been more perfect.
I'm going to give you my top 4 picks of summer dresses and summer shoes. I'm trying to be more open to colour this season, as I've really lost my mojo when it comes to patterns and more daring tones...so be prepared!
Grey Swing Dress - £20
You just cannot beat a short swing dress. Although this does come in black (it was SOOOO hard not to go for that) I think the grey is perfect for summer. Slightly lighter and less harsh, team with pom pom sandals and a clutch for the perfect day time look.
Khaki Maxi Dress - £18
Yes another dark-ish colour from me; but khaki is massive this season, so forgive me. I love the length of this. I love the simplicity, and I love the fact you can dress it up or down. Just perfect!
Off The Shoulder Midi - £25
Off the shoulder and midi - 2 of my absolute faves! I wouldn't normally go for this electric blue, but how beautiful would it look with a tan! I just love it everything about it; the length, they frills, the layers! This is another piece that's perfect for both day and night which means less to pack!
Frilled Printed Maxi - £12
Yes this is my blog you are on...and yes this is colour and pattern! I just LOVE this. Frills are massive this season, and in my opinion the bigger the better! Look at the hem on this! The colours are perfect for summer and at just £12 you're practically saving money!
Fringed Heels - £20.50
Ahh the fringed heeled sandal. This shoe is so much more than your classic pair of heels. This pair of gorgeous faux suede in tan will make any outfit stand out. You can keep the rest of the look simple and ensure all eyes are on these babies!
The Slider Flat-form - £21
My must have shoe of the season; the flat-form. Basically a platform, but flat! They are super comfortable to wear, but make a statement at the same time. I'd wear these with basically anything, but especially the khaki maxi dress I mentioned above.
The Slider - £12
Another massive trend this season is the slider. A simple, yet bold shoe which is also another comfortable one to wear (for grannies like me!). They're not just for round the pool; they will update any mini dress, or pair with some cute shorts and an off the shoulder tee.
The Ankle Boot - £24
Now you may not think boots and summer go; but I don't think you can beat a classic faux suede pair for days when the sun doesn't shine (if you're from the UK, then most days!). I love the tassel detail, it makes them on trend, and ultra flattering. I'd either dress them down with skinnies or pair with a summer dress.
So this post has made me SO excited for my holiday, even though it's not for 2 and a half months. JD Williams is such a great place to get some summer staples at incredible prices. There is currently a sale on, plus you get 20% of your first order! I'd definitely recommend you get yourself over there!
